A significant body within the combined authority is the Transport North East Committee.
This is a joint committee of the Combined Authority and seven individual councils that advises the Combined Authority and oversee the delivery of transport functions across the area.
During an initial period of operation there are three delivery organisations:
- Durham County Council manages delegated transport functions within its own boundary.
- Northumberland County Council manages delegated transport functions within its own boundary.
- Nexus manages the functions which it previously delivered within the Tyne and Wear area.
