New Tyne Crossing.

Starting in June 2008 the following activities are expected to take place around the construction corridor for the New Tyne Crossing.

  • A19 road works
  • The central reservation along the A19, on the approach towards the Tyne Tunnel roundabout, will be hardened to enable the southbound lanes to be realigned during the construction period. This will enable construction work to take place on land between the A19 and the A187 Howdon By-pass, whilst safeguarding passing traffic.

  • River works
  • Preparatory building works will take place along the northern bank of the River Tyne ahead of river dredging activity (which is planned for winter 2009). River works will take place within the confines of the Howdon Yard.
