The Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State for Transport to invesigate the feasibility of a second Tyne crossing published his findings and recomendations on the 3rd September 2003. After due consideration of the Inspector's report the Secretary of State authorised the New Tyne Crossing project to proceed on the 21st July 2005.
