A Code of Construction Practice (CoCP) has been developed to provide a framework for the management of environmental impacts associated with the construction and operation of the New Tyne Crossing. The code has been developed specifically for the project, reflecting anticipated construction operations and organisational structure. It incorporates:

  • the TWPTA's and Secretary of State's requirements and conditions as they relate to environmental management

  • the requirements of other relevant bodies environmental management plans reflecting the nature, scope and significance of activities being carried out

  • 'best practice' corporate environmental commitments, such as achieving statutory compliance as a minimum level of performance, continual improvement in environmental performance, and the prevention of pollution

  • procedures to ensure community engagement and public accountability

The CoCP applies to all those with construction responsibilities.

Key staff with environmental management responsibilities are named within the CoCP to identify relevant staff and contact details. A competent nominated person has overall responsibility for ensuring compliance with the legal and contractual environmental requirements and provision of adequate resources to achieve this.

All contractors and subcontractors are signed up to a commitment to follow and implement the CoCP.
