Keeping a new eye on traffic at the Tyne Tunnel

1st July 2011

From now on motorists travelling through the Tyne Tunnel will be able to plan their journeys with the help of new, enhanced web cam services.

Following commissioning of the new vehicle tunnel earlier this year, Tyne Tunnel operator TT2 has installed a suite of new cameras around the tunnels site to provide live traffic feeds to its website www.tt2.co.uk

The webcams are programmed to refresh the online view several times a minute to provide dynamic information about traffic levels on the Tyne Tunnel approaches. The popular journey time service is also available via the TT2 website, providing accurate queue time predictions.

TT2’s Managing Director, Trevor Jackson, said: “I’m sure our customers will be delighted with our re-launched journey planning services. Traffic is flowing better than ever through the Tyne Tunnel and now people can see this for themselves through the web cams.

“We know how popular the web cam and journey time facilities are, and I’m sure the investment we’ve made in improving these services will prove invaluable to motorists.”

The improvements include optimised accessibility for mobile applications, so that people trying to check the webcams from their mobile phones or other portable devices will now find it easier than ever.
