Our Tyne Tunnel site consists of three tunnels, each one of the three services a different type of customer. We have vehicle, Cyclist and Pedestrian Tunnels. The Vehicle Tunnel takes all types of vehicles through its single tube, which is bi-directional and tolled. Both the Pedestrian and Cyclist Tunnels are free. All three tunnels are open 24 hours per day and operate every day of the year, and are vital components within the Tyne and Wear Conurbation's Strategic Transport Network. The Vehicle Tunnel joins two parts of the A19 Trunk Road and the Cyclist tunnel joins with the C2C Cycle Route. The reason for our existence is to pass customers under the river Tyne between North and South Tyneside. We are located between the historic towns of Wallsend and Jarrow.
