The Tyne & Wear Passenger Transport Authority (PTA) has launched a web site to keep you fully informed about developments on the New Tyne Crossing. The site looks at why a new crossing is necessary, current thinking on the environmental impact of construction and the history of the existing tunnels. A special section is dedicated to frequently asked questions and gives people the opportunity to e-mail further questions to the PTA . Copies of press releases and newsletters, together with details of forthcoming events and public meetings will be also be posted on the web at regular intervals. North Tyneside Councillor, Muriel Green, who is vice chair of the PTA and responsible for the Tyne Tunnels, said: “Open communication with all those affected by the proposals is a top priority for the local councils, the PTA and our advisers. There will be a lot of information to communicate as we approach the end of this first stage of the project. The new web site will becontinuously updated and it will be a valuable tool in helping us reach as wide an audience as possible.”

South Tyneside Councillor, Peter Boyack, said: “We are delighted that the PTA is continuing this proactive approach to communicating with people affected by the scheme. They should be congratulated on making available such an in-depth resource to keep the community up to date with developments.”

The site can be found at http://www.twpta.gov.uk/ntc. It has been designed to be informative and easy to navigate. Any comments on the content and layout are welcome and should be e-mailed to the address given on the contacts page.
