Institution of Civil Engineers judges’ citation:-

"The New Tyne Crossing has been given a Special Robert Stephenson Award in recognition of its overall civil engineering excellence. The project is one of great national significance and since opening has transformed the experience of the travelling public on this section of the A19: once one of the UK’s most congested highway routes. As a result, opportunities for economic development and job creation have been opened up on both sides of the Tyne and transport links for existing enterprises have been improved. The project has demonstrated that it excels in all of the RSA judging criteria through concept, design, planning and construction. It is a worthy recipient of this special award."
