Here’s a few of the comments from the public in support of Metro Re-invigoration. Email [email protected] and add your name to the list now. We need to keep the Metro. The Government need to know that any money ploughed into it would be well spent. Public transport is a must if we are to reduce pollution.
Mrs M Clarke, Sunderland. I think it's a great idea to introduce machines which accept notes and cards. I have been silently whispering this to myself for a while! I will be looking forward to seeing the developments. Well done to Metro.
Claire Johnston, Holystone, North Tyneside. Metro is a vital link for our church community. Many of our church members travel to church from all across the region by using Metro, as we are located near Byker Station, and being so close is invaluable. We welcome the plans to reinvigorate the Metro link and see it become fit for many more years to come.

Shirley Lowell, Jesmond, Newcastle. £30m a year is a tiny amount of money to pay for the benefits of a modern, integrated transport system. The government would be very foolish indeed to ignore or water-down the proposals. With the amount of office development going on around Tyneside and Sunderland it is crucial that we get commuters in and out work without clogging the roads. Rail is the only way to do it.
Dave Miller, Newcastle. I am from Newcastle but living in Tokyo and the train system here is first class and its plain to see how much a good public transport system is an integral part of any modern urban area.
Stephen Kent, Tokyo. I remember when the Metro opened in the 80s. Now I live in London, where the Tube is undergoing a much-needed modernisation. I hope the Metro will get the same treatment.
Martin Carr, London. I fully support your campaign for funds to improve the system. It is over 25 years since the Metro started running, and I have used the system ever since it was introduced but over the years as rolling stock and infrastructure has aged I have found it has become less reliable and breakdowns and failures are becoming more frequent. Since the Sunderland extension opened I have used it five day's a week.

Stephen Adamson, Preston Grange, North Shields. Metro provides the only real alternative to car travel in the region for thousands upon thousands of commuters. The amount being asked is tiny compared to far greater amounts invested in other regions. I live in Cramlington and would love to see Metro taking in Ashington, Blyth, Morpeth and Bedlington, as well as Cramlington. It would make a massive impact in reducing road traffic in what is already an inadequate road system.

It is an excellent form of transport - so much more reliable and punctual and comfortable than bus travel and so much better for the environment and improvement of cities. Financial support from the government would show they are serious about improving the country's transport system.
Ann Yeats, Tyne and Wear. I'm 100% for the re-modernisation of the Metro, especially the Metro transport itself. New Metro's restyled with interior comfort. Think passenger, think happy comfortable journey to work or for a shopping journey etc and take the Metro's and the entire infrastructure into the future zone.

Paul Rutter, Sunderland. I use the Metro four days in five to travel from West Jesmond to South Shields for work; I also use Metro at night and weekends. I strongly support the re-invigoration proposals which are needed to ensure that Metro continues to provide a good service and attracts non-users out of their cars.
