Listed Buildings
There are three Grade II listed buildings affected by the scheme: the Tyne Pedestrian and Cycle Tunnels; the Sir Charles Palmer Monument in Riverside Park; and the Gaslight Public House.

The project will enhance the current setting of the Pedestrian and Cycle Tunnels. The statue of Sir Charles Palmer has been relocated to a position outside Jarrow Town Hall on Grange Road.

Permission to demolish the Gaslight Public House was granted by the Secretary of State when he approved the New Tyne Crossing Order in 2005, subject to approval by South Tyneside Council. This is known as Listed Building Consent. An application to demolish the Gaslight is anticipated because it is so close to the line of a cut section for the new tunnel.
