The programme for the New Tyne Crossing is: - November 23, 2007 Award of Contract, start of Concession
- April 22 2008 Construction started
- December 2010 New Tyne Tunnel opens, exisiting Tyne Tunnel closes for refurbishment
- December 2011 Both tunnels open and fully operational
