New Tyne Crossing.
View of the new crossing facing North

Work to prepare land for construction of the New Tyne Crossing will begin on 22nd April 2008. The first phase of work will involve securing and fencing the construction site and preparing the land within the site boundary for construction activity.

Land within the construction site will be cleared and, in places, levelled so that equipment can be put in place. Staff car parking areas will also be created within the construction site.

In order to minimise the impacts of construction traffic on local residents approved construction routes will be clearly designated and monitored. Construction traffic will not be permitted to use any route other than pre-approved construction traffic routes. These routes have been agreed with North Tyneside and South Tyneside Councils, and are designed to minimise construction traffic movements on local roads.

Main construction activity will not begin until June or July this year. However some minor works will take place before then. Further information about new phases of activity will be added to this website as the project progresses. Maps indicating the construction traffic routes and the site boundary will be added to this site shortly.
