| July / September 2005 | Secretary of State announces decision followed by a challenge period |
| February 2006 | Invitation to tender to pre-qualified consortia (See below.) |
| August 2006 | Closure of tenders, tender analysis and negotiations |
| August 2007 | Award of Contract, start of concession |
| Autumn 2007 | Construction starts |
| 2010 | New Tyne Crossing opens |
