Where to see New Tyne Crossing plans


A series of exhibitions has been planned so members of the public can view Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Authority's proposals for the New Tyne Crossing.

The proposals are included in the application to the Secretary of State for Transport for the necessary powers to build the New Tyne Crossing, which is being made today (Friday).

The public has until 19 July to write to the Secretary of State in support of the proposal or to object.

Copies of the full application will also be available for inspection at locations around Tyne and Wear.

Members of the public and interested organisations wishing to support the application, or object, should make representations in writing to:
The Secretary of State for Transport c/o the TWA Processing Unit, Zone 3/11, Department of Transport, Local Government and the Regions, Great Minster House, 76 Marsham Street, London, SW1P 4DR on or before 19 July 2002.
Representation MUST (i) be received by the Secretary of State on or before 19 July 2002, (ii) be made in writing, (iii) state the grounds of the objection or representation, (iv) indicate who is making the representation, and (v) give an address to which correspondence relating to the representation may be sent.
After representations have been received, the Secretary of State will decide whether or not to hold a local public Inquiry. If an Inquiry is called, it will take place within six to nine months.
