THE NEW TYNE CROSSING

PROCEEDINGS AT INQUIRY ON THURSDAY, 17 APRIL 2003

Day 27

AM

The Inquiry recommenced at 9.20 am. Mr Sauvain delivered his closing address to the Inquiry. He also gave a statement in relation to Counsel’s opinion which was submitted to the Inquiry following instruction from the Friends of the Earth. Mr Sauvain also addressed a number of outstanding issues relating to planning conditions.

The Inspector then asked if there were any other matters anyone attending wished to put to him. As there was no response, the Inspector addressed the Inquiry. He stated that he would not be formally closing the Inquiry today as he wished to allow the TWPTA time to conclude their negotiations with those objectors who had indicated that they considered resolution of their objection was feasible and so be able to withdraw. The Inspector indicated that he would formally close the Inquiry by letter on 31 May 2003. He did not anticipate that this would delay the timescale in the production of his report and it’s submissions to the Secretary of State.

The Inquiry adjourned at 12.40 pm after the Inspector thanked all who had attended on the day and throughout the Inquiry. The Inspector specially thanked the staff at the Jarrow Community Centre for their hospitality.
