PROCEEDINGS AT INQUIRY ON TUESDAY, 11 MARCH 2003

In the morning session evidence was given by Dr Michael Bull Bsc, PhD, MI Chan E in relation to the air quality effects of the proposals during both the construction and the operation of the New Tyne Crossing. Dr Bull was cross-examined by Mr Tim Sanders (Friends of the Earth), Mr John Turvey (Tynebikes), Mr Murphy (NECTAR), Mr Winch (Tyne Crossings Alliance) and Tracey Dunn (a resident).

In the afternoon session the Inquiry heard the evidence of Mr Steve Challinor BSc MSc on Water Quality issues. Mr Challinor also gave evidence to the Inquiry in rebuttal of the written evidence of Mr Tim Deere-Jones of Friends of the Earth. He was cross-examined by Mr Sanders of Friends of the Earth and Mr Winch of Tyne Crossings Alliance. The Inspector, Mr Nixon asked a number of supplementary questions.

Tomorrows evidence is expected from Mr Lofthouse on Spoil and Waste Management and Dr Johnson on Environmental matters.

It is also expected that the Inquiry will have a technical session following the evidence to consider the draft protective provisions which are to be put forward as part of the proposed order.
