Temporary Lane Closure for New Tyne Crossing Works this Weekend

12th August 2011

Temporary traffic management measures will be in place on Sunday 14 August 2011 to carry out road surfacing works at the southern interchange of the Tyne Tunnel in Jarrow.

Between 07:00h and 15:00h this Sunday temporary lane closures will be in place along A185 Straker Street (between the A19 roundabout and the Howard Street / Priory Road roundabout). There will be no northbound access for traffic leaving the A19/Tyne Tunnel towards Jarrow. A diversion via Church Bank will be in place for motorists leaving the Tyne Tunnel and wishing to travel to Jarrow.

One lane of Straker Street will remain open for southbound traffic, providing access from Howard Street / Priory Road (Jarrow) towards the southbound A19 / A185 roundabout.

The northbound lane closures will enable high friction surfacing to be added to the carriageway, completing works that were stopped last weekend by bad weather.

Vehicles leaving the Tyne Tunnel and wishing to remain on the A19 southbound will not be affected by these works.

Pedestrian routes will be maintained along Straker Street throughout the temporary lane closure.

The Tyne Tunnel will remain open for business as usual throughout the weekend.

TT2 and Bouygues Travaux Publics UK apologise for the temporary disruption associated with these works, and would like to thank road users for their ongoing patience.
